COST Action CA21151 launches its 2nd call for Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs)

Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) are institutional visits that promote researchers to conduct research, learn new research techniques, use instruments or strategies which are not available in their own institution, develop research skills in another COST country by promoting existing and new networks, fostering collaboration, and contributing to the scientific objectives of the Action.

COST Action CA21151 has 7 working groups and STSMs can contribute to the specific related tasks of any of the working groups. The second call will fund 3 to 6 STSMs and covers the Grant Period from February 2024 until August 2024, and during this period STSMs should be completed.

Deadlines

  • Application Period: January 1st 2024 – 31st August 2024 (The call will be open as long as the budget is available with the last deadline 31st August 2024)
  • Applications will be assessed within 30 days of the submission.

Documents for interested applicants

  • STSM grant Application (based on e-COST template )
  • Letter of willingness to host and facilitate work and training on the topic of the application.
  • Other documents required by the Action:
  • Letter of motivation and expectations
  • Curriculum vitae (EUROPASS CV )
  • Letter of support from the applicant’s supervisor or host institution explaining the kind of training required for the nominee and benefits to the institute that will follow from the training.

Financial support

Following the COST annotated rules (see pages 81-86), trainees are eligible to receive a daily allowance that will financially contribute to (but not necessarily cover) daily expenses such as meals, accommodation and local travel. You can find the daily allowance rate for each country here.

Participants are also eligible to be reimbursed for their long-distance travel costs (up to EUR 1500). “The participants are required to choose the most economical means of transportation” (page 82, COST annotated rules).
